Tone Quest

Tone Quest is an illustrated story and concept album of instrumental music.

The term Illustrumentals is coyly proffered as an explanation for something that grew naturally out of creative necessity.

I’ve been freely following my creativity for a while now. Disconnecting from social media and the subtle pressures of delivering so called “content” has been just what I needed. Purely following my interests and enthusiasm has taken me on a path into drawing music related art, and then into making little music clips as soundtracks to the images. And I ended up making an illustrated concept album of instrumental music.

This project feels like a very natural outlet for my creative urges.

Have Guitar Will Travel

Here’s some concept development art I’ve been working on for a project I might want to explore. I’m just looking to create questions with these explorations. Who created this enourmous guitar amplifier robot. And why? Who is the kid, and where are they headed? This post apocalyptic duo might have a story to tell.

I’m not too sure why I backed off with colour on these. But I kind of like it.

I was thoroughly inspired by Alex Vede with this set of illustrations. I think Alex is probably influenced by a bunch of the same illustrators that I’ve been looking at recently like Mike Mignola, Ashley Wood and Jim Mahfood. But seeing Alex’s work really gave me a kick up the backside. Go check out his stuff if you’re not already familiar!
